Motivations

This series aims to foster community for those perilously underrepresented and often precariatised within the academy.

While there is an emerging visibility of how this circumstance affects variously marginalised peoples, what remains formally unknown is how many are lost to it. Anecdotally,  we know of the widespread isolation that causes us to remove ourselves from these structures. This disappearance is the enactment of the kinds of structural violence that writers on the critical margins address.

The series seeks recuperation from (our) separation and fragmentation by prioritising the coming together of women and non-binary people from variously marginalised communities. It is thus an endeavour to alter the conditions of our own labour – to restore our academic spirits without the academy.
